The 2nd State Level Selection Test (AT) 2025, conducted by the West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBSSC), is a competitive recruitment exam for the appointment of Assistant Teachers in Government-aided/sponsored secondary and higher secondary schools of West Bengal. This includes posts for Classes IX-X in various subjects, including Physical Science (Graduate level). The official notification was released on 30 May 2025, and the application process is being conducted online as per the detailed guidelines in the brochure dated 16 June 2025.

Candidates applying for the IX–X Physical Science post must hold a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. Hons. or Pass) with Physics/Chemistry as a subject with at least 50% marks (relaxation for reserved categories) and a B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognized institution. The age limit is 21 to 40 years as of 1 January 2025, with applicable relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories as per government norms.

The selection process comprises a Written Examination (60 marks) followed by the evaluation of Academic Qualifications (10 marks), Teaching Experience in Govt./Aided Schools (10 marks), a Personality Test/Interview (10 marks), and a Lecture Demonstration (10 marks). The written test is OMR-based, consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with no negative marking, and focuses on the candidate’s subject (Physical Science). All questions are to be answered within the stipulated time.

After the written test, shortlisted candidates are called for the interview round in the ratio of 1.6:1 against the number of final vacancies. Final selections are made on the basis of the combined merit list, and appointments are offered via a centralized counselling process. The exam is expected to be held in September 2025, although the exact date will be notified later on the Commission’s official website.

The Physical Science syllabus for the IX-X level covers core areas of both Physics (Mechanics, Heat, Light, Electricity, Magnetism, Sound) and Chemistry (Atomic Structure, Mole Concept, Chemical Bonding, Acids & Bases, Organic Chemistry). Candidates are advised to go through the detailed syllabus and prepare systematically. The inclusion of teaching experience and classroom demonstration in the merit calculation highlights the importance of both subject mastery and pedagogical skills in the final selection.

Selection to the post of Assistant Teacher for Classes IX & X shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in written examination, educational qualification, prior teaching experience, oral interview, and lecture demonstration, determined by the Central Commission, in the following manner:
